Biography: Dr. David McNaughton was born in DeForrest, Wisconsin in 1938. He graduated from high school in Durand, Wisconsin before entering Stout in 1956. While a student at Stout, McNaughton participated in such organizations and activities as the International Relations Club, Chi Lambda, the Student Governing Board, and track. He graduated with honors in 1960 with a B.S. Industrial Education. After graduation, McNaughton taught in Luremburg, Wisconsin, before choosing to continue his education. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Wyoming, Larami in Guidance Counseling and Psychology. He later taught at the School of Psychology in St. Paul before returning to Stout as a member of the University Counseling Center in 1966. The University Counseling Center was created to improve the lifestyles of the students and faculty through counseling and edcucation. The Center also developed a career planning program. In 1969, McNaughton was appointed as head of the Center. In addition to his work with the University Couseling Center, McNaughton has played a key role on campus in developing sexual harassment policies, an alcohol and drug education program, a wellness program, and several others. Under his leadership, the University Counseling Center gained an extensive reputation for excellence. McNaughton retired in 1995.
